Well today I decided to sit and watch Page Eight, as you may or may not know it’s a sort of English spy film.

Plot Summary -
Johnny Worricker (Bill Nighy) is a long-serving MI5 officer. His boss and best friend Benedict Baron (Michael Gambon) dies suddenly, leaving behind him an inexplicable file, threatening the stability of the organization. Meanwhile, a seemingly chance encounter with Johnny’s striking next-door neighbor and political activist Nancy Pierpan (Rachel Weisz) seems too good to be true. Johnny is forced to walk out of his job, and then out of his identity to find out the truth.
To start with the premise is really good right up my alley to be honest, you really can’t beat a good spy film although it does start off rather slow about 40 minutes in is when the story speeds up a bit and you feel somethings happening. If you’ve had the displeasure of watching The American that’s sort of how this starts but don’t mistake that as bad thing because you really do get a good look at the characters, it starts like a book given a little background to the characters.
This is a film not about the action but about the intriguing, good acting, atmosphere & the story line. Bill Nighy’s a great actor and that is shown in this film, he suits the roll to a tee.
The script is believable, sharp and on occasion very witty, there’s little music but you don’t notice that much as when there is it’s spot on to match the exact scene. The cinematography seems a little grey but perfect for the plot, The ending is good and leaves one wanting more.
